Boathouse Restaurant

Had a lucky chance to enjoy my Valentine's Day dinner at Boathouse Restaurant this year. We reserved a table for the second seating at 2030 hours, but ended up waiting till 2110 hours due to the raining night and late arrivals of the diners for the first seating. Even so, the crew is polite enough to make conversant with us of the problem, and kindly directed us to Prelude Rooftop Bar while waiting.

Pardon me for the grainy pictures as the outdoor environment is pretty much like candlelight dinner, thus lighting condition is rather bad. Well, I could have used flash, but I wouldn't want to spoil other's dinner with my flash throughout the meals.

In any case, I still like how they laid out their table for diners. Kinda romantic, excluding the narrow gap between tables...

Nyonya Curry Puff Cafe

Saw this online deal weeks ago, and decided to purchase it. It costs $2.40 per voucher, for 2 puffs and a drink. I thought since I have this little interest in Nyonya culture and their food, why not?

So, I was brought to this stall located in Redhill. It looks more like a snack stall than a café, and doesn't it jog one's memory during your schooling days? Snacking while on the way home.

Their puffs are big, and it's not those normal curry puffs we usually see. Layered triangular skin, rather than the smooth ones in most places. Based on the size, I was expecting it to be full of fillings, and crispy skin. Is this the case?

Nope... Filling is not as much as I thought, and crust is not crispy as I thought it should be. On the good side, fillings are not bland, peppery taste is there. Anyway, I had the Black Pepper Chicken Puff.

Had the Green Apple milkshake. Apparently, their milkshake doesn't look like any of those I had tried before, and it seems more like fruit juice to me than milkshake. Still, there is a little milk taste in it, and it doesn't taste that bad, as compared to what I had thought. Luckily, the apple taste is still quite distinctive.

A preview of their menu. Wide variety of drinks, and also comes in set menus. Not sure how their set works, but for a guess, an Otah Bun set with Ice Blended drink will cost you $3.30?

They have quite a variety of puffs for selection, and are reasonably priced too. I reached the place around 5 plus near the evening, and most are sold out. Probably the ones I bought are not as popular as the others?

Located under the HDBs, it is common to have such student's value promotion.

If you are able to make it early to see their displays full of puffs, yet unable to make up your mind, this past advertisement might be useful to you. Mutton and Durian puffs seems to be the "lovable" ones.

Overall, their puffs are not that bad. I had also tried their Curry Chicken Puff, which is a common flavor we have in all other curry puff stalls. Filling is rather good, but better than the black pepper chicken puff, and spiciness is there. Perhaps they can improve on the crispiness of the puffs to make it even better.

Penny University

Penny University doesn't earns you an academic certification, but a nice and cosy ambience to spend your evening, reading some books, sipping on drinks and tasting cakes/pastries!

Nicely done latte art on a cup of hot latte to chill off the freezing evening these days.

Houjicha Karingue is a tea that seems to originate from Japan. Based on the description, this is a common drink in Japan, and tea is being pan-roasted from selected stems, to bring out the sweet nutty flavour. I find this tea smooth, and of course, sweet.

Smores is one of the in-store desserts. It is like a chocolate cake with marshmallows. Didn't quite like the marshmallows in it, but the cake itself is delicious. I like the thick chocolate layer at the top, and the two squarish biscuits as topping gives a sweet, crispy feel. I think it goes very well with my tea too.

Mad Nest

Found Mad Nest nested along East Coast Road, after knowing the initial café that I wanted to visit has the chef out of the kitchen after 4pm... What a sad fact..

Nonetheless, I found Mad Nest ambience quite cosy, and has a lot of seating space. It looks like a nice chilling spot for drinks and snacks. So I decided to give this place a try-out for my dinner.

Food is quite limited, or probably after narrowing down to my individual preference. They have a few variety of cuisines (Japanese, Northern Indian, Italian Asian, All-Day Brunch), which is similar to Ogopogo Café, which I have blogged before.

Loysel's Toy

Tucked away in a small corner... Barely visible to passing cars...

Situated near the Kallang Riverside Park, it seems like a great place for morning joggers or people who are having activities nearby to catch their breath, or to end their activity with a nice meal.

They have a variety of drinks to choose from, but I chose to have fruit juice for my Sunday morning. Apple juice ($5.00) was what I ordered, and probably it's a green apple they have used. Expect nothing special from a fruit juice, except that it's sweet :) They do have 2 other options, Orange and Watermelon, for the fruit juice section.

Ice Latte ($4.50).

Chye Seng Huat Hardware

Probably a hidden find that has minimal indicator that it's a cafe, and serves yummy food that you might not be able to resist!

Let me bring you in and you will understand why it is hard to resist the food served here...

Daily Brewed Coffee ($5.00) sets their milk aside, thus you will be able to customize the sweetness to your own liking. After pouring the whole milk in, I still find it a little bitter, but just the perfect taste to wake one up in the weekend morning. Why waste your weekend away in your bed??
