Bacon & Booze

"Bacon & Booze" is a cafe prominently erected within the boundaries of Gallop Stable, as well as being clearly identified from the roadside. If your intention to Punggol End includes visiting the Punggol Ranch, then Bacon & Booze is just somewhere beside the office, in front of the carpark.

Yoogane Singapore

Yoogane is one of the popular Korean Cuisine in Bugis Junction, extension block. Located directly at the exit of the escalator or if you know where is the Seoul Garden, you will most likely be seeing a queue.

The Flying Squirrel

We had actually planned to have some healthy food, such as soup for lunch during lunch breaks in CBD. But the hot and humid simply deterred us from heading to the agreed designation.

Perhaps a blessing in disguise, we chanced upon an interesting signage pointing towards an alley, which doesn't look at all promising a place for meal. But our doubts were soon hammered back to ourselves. Hidden just in the alley, there is a small, or perhaps squeezy restaurant. It was packed and the aroma of the food upon entering didn't gave us a chance to walk out.

Mellben Seafood

Mellben Seafood has been around for years, but this is my first time patronizing them. Located under an old HDB in Ang Mo Kio, you can actually anticipate the crowd and waiting time, considering Mellben Seafood's popularity.

fArt tArtz Cafe

Singapore Expo was never a place I will hang out at on days when the halls are empty. But with the appearance of fArt tArtz Cafe, it kind of changes what I thought of Expo. It has a theme of a garden, with decorations of flowers and mini grass patches. During the broad daylight, it does make the cafe lively and vibrant!

fArt tArtz Cafe is located away from the halls, directly at the end of the car park. Parking might be a troublesome matter during events and exhibitions, but otherwise on the non-peak days.

Monday, 24 November 2014

Concept similar to KFC, Popeye, Arnolds, Texas Chicken, 4 Fingers, etc., Chickano is another store to add on to the list. It seems very much to be like a usual fast food concept, but with limited to accommodate only a handful of walk-in customers.

Quan Lai Kway Chap

It has been a long time since I had Kway Chap, where you have several food items (usually pig organs), with a bowl or two of flat and broad rice sheets. This has been one of my childhood breakfast at coffeeshops to end the "marketing" in the morning, but seldom visits as I grew older and get surrounded by tons of cafes serving brunches and other western food.

Wheeler's Yard

I would say this is a hidden cafe which is located behind the main street. It might not be seen as one to be a cafe, if you have not heard of this cafe before, and might pass it off as an industrial building for wheels?

Outback Steakhouse

Orchard Gateway has opened its doors quite some time back, but this was my first time stepping in, realizing it's linked to Central. Didn't really had the time to walk around, but had plan to have a meal there. Well, my first meal in Orchard Gateway, not really a fantastic one, but wasn't too bad either.

OZ Specialty Coffee

This is quite an outdated post, and having said that, OZ Specialty Coffee has shifted and currently operating under Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters.

Having been to Thomson V Two previously, I held much anticipation on my next trip to the same building, hitting on the next cafe!

Butterfingrrs - Cakes & Tarts for Occasions

Instagram is one of my favorite app, because it is where I sourced for good food or new places from other instagrammers. It has also become another social media platform where entrepreneurs-alike advertise and promote their services, which serves as another online shopping concept!

I have recently took interest on one instagrammer, butterfingrrs, whose cakes and tarts caught me to follow, then. Being a vivid believer for using butter in her bakings, it is also how "butterfingrrs" came about, with double R's which embed more contrast and impression in my mind than any other normal titles.

I was initially invited to a newly-opened retaurant located in UE Square, but only reached to realize there's a disruption to the power supply in the restaurant, without notifying me beforehand.

Thus, we took a walk around and managed to spot boCHINche several streets away, at the upper level of a building, which then took our attention! Below is the well-raved Common Man Coffee Roasters, which is still having a long queue despite near 2 in the afternoon. Luckily, boCHINche's the aim since the beginning.

The Boiler Louisiana Seafood & Beer

A typical view of Tai Seng would be an industrial area, where food is only available from hawker centres. That was my initial thought. When I was invited to The Boiler, I admit that I'm quite skeptical about the location provided, and being in an industrial area, I wasn't giving any high expectations on the quality of the food.

About 5-10 mins walk from Tai Seng MRT, The Boiler is located at the corner of Novelty Bizcentre, which is easy to spot if you just walk around the perimeter. Seeing the built-up of The Boiler from the exterior, somehow my expectation for the food rises.

The Boiler is a Southern American-inspired seafood joint, that delivers freshly-cooked and tasty seafood in Louisiana style right up to you.

I was invited by Hungrygowhere for food tasting at Azmaya, which is one of the Japanese Restaurants serving Shabu-shabu along Robertson Quay. It isn't too hard to find as it faces the river, and pretty near to Robertson Quay Hotel.

Ah Dong Teh House

Entering somewhere along Punggol East, in one of the not-so developed area yet, housed several restaurants and is deem quite a lively place to hang out at, with a park connector by the side. One of it is Ah Dong Teh House, 阿东茶餐厅.

Chongqing Chicken Hotpot 重庆鸡公煲

Had an impromptu dinner at Chongqing Chicken Hotpot, along the stretch of Jalan Besar. Nicely situated slightly opposite the popular Swee Choon Dim Sum.

Tian Kee & Co

I might not have knew of Tian Kee & Co, if not for instagram and blog reviews. Hidden in the middle of an old estate, it's no surprise why Tian Kee & Co is so popularly being raved about.

Hardly seen nowadays, which was seen in coffeeshops, shopping malls, etc. coin-operated kiddy ride is definitely an old school toy for most!

NamNam Noodle Bar

NamNam Noodle Bar is so prominently based below/beside the escalator in the extension block of Plaza Singapura. Kind of like an open-concept restaurant, unlike most restaurants which are enclosed within walls.

It was an impromptu plan to eat at NamNam Noodle Bar. Have always been passing by Nam Nam Noodle Bar, but never in my thought to try it. Now to think of it, how foolish am I to not have even included them in my "to-eat" list!!

Thursday, 21 August 2014

The Lokal

Although located at the corner of the street, The Lokal does not seem to be interested in making themselves more prominent by having an eye-attracting signage, which can be seen from far. Nonetheless, just head on along Neil Road, and turn right at Bukit Pasoh Road. The first building on the left will be where The Lokal houses their patrons and serving them with friendliness and smiles!

Ramen Champion (Shodai Koji, Riki, Menya Ryu)

I love and hate Ramen Champion. Love for having an array of ramens to choose from when I have a craving for it, but also the reason why I hate as I can't make up my mind!

I remembered my first ramen from Ramen Champion is some black ramen, where the broth is dark-colored. I love the taste of it, but sadly, it is no longer in operation the 2nd time I went. The stalls may be changing from time to time, but that also mean a new stall to takeover, and a new taste to inject into Ramen Champion!

Monday, 11 August 2014

Arossa Grill & Wine Bar

Scotts Square, often depicted by people as boring place, nothing to shop around, nearly empty type of area even during weekends.

Well, I do agree to a certain extent because if you are looking for restaurants with food worth-spending on, Scotts Square might be able to surprise you with a couple or more!

Eatzi Gourmet Bakery (JP Pepperdine)

Mid-Autmn Festival is probably just a month away, but mooncakes are on sale everywhere, in restaurants, bakeries and even markets.

Under JP Pepperdine Group, Eatzi Gourmet Bakery has a load of mooncakes for sale, in view of the upcoming festival, celebrating the festive joy with Singaporeans! In the control of Chef Chai, every single mooncake is handcrafted to ensure consistency and better quality assurance.

Packaging of the mooncake is quite Chinese-based, yet scaled with bronze-colored design to instill a tinge of modernized feel in a traditional Chinese festive.

Perhaps due to my ignorance, I haven't heard of Movenpick Hotel till I found out the existence of Tablescape Restaurant, housed inside the Hotel.

I love the grand with a little bit of colonial of the exterior, and the grass patch which covers almost the entire stairway to the entrance. This show that "red carpet" is not well-liked by all people though :)

One Man Coffee

Upper Thomson Road is well-known for having food choices a variety for diners, and maybe headache to some in making up their mind, besides our popular Newton and Chomp Chomp Food Market.

One Man Coffee is well-situated along Upper Thomson Street where vast food stalls and restaurants are held at. It will be nearer if you come from Lornie Road direction, and after passing by the petrol station on the left, One Man Coffee will be just a short walking distance away from you. To avoid any confusion, One Man Coffee is located within Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar.

The Tastemaker Store

Just opened earlier this year, The Tastemaker Store can be quite an eye-catcher amidst the whole row of other HDB stores. Reason is because of their white and bright interior, and a total look-through glass panel of the inside!

Khun Mee Thai Noodle Bar

I have never been to Bedok Point, and might have even mistook Bedok Mall for Bedok Point, if not for the detailed information.

Glad that I was invited for food tasting session, hosted by Khun Mee Thai, a new Thailand noodle bar serving authentic Thai-Chinese food. What makes Khun Mee Thai unique is that they uses ingredients imported from Thailand, and specially designed each item in their menu without compromising the taste of Thai food.

Prominently lighted up behind, upon exit of the escalator, is their purple-lited signboard, which is impossible to miss.

Monday, 21 July 2014

Ipoh Anson Chee Cheong Fun

Ipoh Anson Chee Cheong Fun is situated along Changi Road, Singapore. They are popular among diners for their chee cheong fun, because they serve different types, unlike the traditional one, which have soy sauce and sesame only.

Full of Crab

I've been hearing of "hands-on" crab feast, which is like a trend now in Singapore. Forgo your utensils, and back to basic!

I was invited by Full of Crab (FOC) to try out their specialty with some discount off the total bill. I'm like looking forward, as it was the highlight of my day! Totally unable to concentrate till dinner time!

L’Entrecôte The French Brasserie

Suntec City has been undergoing a major revamp, both internally and externally. Perhaps not all renovation works have been completed, thus it was pretty complex and confusing to navigate between towers to towers. I have to admit that Suntec City, is a stranger to me now.

L'Entrecote is one of the new restaurants in the basement of the Fountain of Wealth, since the revamping. Situated just beside the flight of staircase leading to Tower One and Two, it does seem like an expensive place to dine at, yet also look like an express version of a French cuisine.

Tsukada Nojo

Heard about the yummy-licious comments of the collagen hotpot from Tsukada Nojo, and of course, the price that comes along with it is the long queue.

Wanted to try out the hotpot for lunch during the weekday, and found out that hotpot is only valid during dinner on weekdays, and whole-day during the weekends! I came at the wrong timing :( Nevertheless, I went in despite the slight disappointment.

I actually went to two different branches on two separate days, but still during lunch and furthermore in the weekdays again. Both branches (Chinatown & Plaza Singapura) gave me a very warm welcome with their Japanese greetings, rather than those sluggish greetings which I suppose most of us would have experienced it before elsewhere.

They do not have much variety, and perhaps ramen is the one to go for. Given only like 4 options for ramen, we had the Tori Nikomi Soba Shio ($16.80)and another was the Tori Nikomi Soba Spicy Hot ($16.80) ramen. You also get to choose between 3 types of noodle, such as thin egg noodle, rice noodle, and the thick mochi-mochi noodle.

As explained by the crew, the ramen soup is exactly the same used for their hotpot. Surprisingly, this was what we came for! Their collagen soup! But of course, hotpot would be a more sumptuous meal :P Anyway, ramen came with the toppings placed on top of a "dish cover". Told by the crew (again), we should taste the soup first, before dropping the toppings in.

I love the thick, creamy and flavorful collagen soup as it slid through my throat! Too bad they do not offer free-flow collagen soup.

Monday, 7 July 2014

Just along Bukit Timah Road, it is just after Coronation Plaza, and in-between lies a big drainage which isn't too hard to figure out. Parking space can be taxing, but if you manage to wander to the landed, just right behind the cafe, you might be able to catch an empty lot!

Thursday, 3 July 2014

Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee

Definitely most would have heard of the Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee, and the long queue that lasted 1-2 hours when it first landed in Singapore from Kuala Lumpur (KL). I'm a pro-hater for long queues, and so here I am, gotten my seat in less than 5 minutes, since the rave is almost over.

Located somewhere further down after Yi Jia South Village Seafood Restaurant, on the left side of the road. Parking along the road is almost impossible, unless you are there before the sun sets. Else a 5-10 minutes walk from the HDB carpark works fine too.

Dian Xiao Er (Healthier Dining)

Needless to say, majority of diners are gearing towards healthier lifestyle and nutritious dining options. Yet saying of healthy food, most would relate to more vegetable, less meat, and even less tastier food. All in all, ruining your appetite and unable to justify the money spent!

When Dian Xiao Er (店小二) sent out an invitation to me, in conjunction with their partnership with Health Promotion Board (HPB), I am quite skeptical to the kind of food served! Yet, this seems like a considerable move to attract a new group of diners to Dian Xiao Er - Health Conscious Diners.

Taiwan Railway Bento

When people hear of bento, most would link it to Japanese Bento, where parents will prepare interesting food patterns for their kids to bring to school for lunch. But, what about railway bento?

Having originated all the way from Taiwan, and as the name describe, such bentos are usually seen in railways or trains, consumed by the Taiwanese while buzzing their way around. While in Singapore, we have to suffer the heavy fine even for sucking on sweets in trains, the best we can enjoy it is to visit Taiwan Railway Bento, a small shop space located both in CT Hub and International Plaza!

Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant

Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant may not be easy to locate as it is housed in a coffeeshop, Shing Boon Hwa Food Centre. Furthermore, it is pretty much hidden behind the construction walls. But despite this, I manage to locate it. Yong Kee Seafood Restaurant, or rather Shing Boon Hwa Food Centre, is at the edge of a conjuring junction between Dickson Road and Jalan Besar. For a more prominent building as a reference, it is opposite Sim Lim Tower.

Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen

I believe most would have already knew that Liang Court is like a Japanese nirvana, as most of the stores in there such as food, mall activities, etc are Japanese Thus I strongly conclude that for authentic Japanese food, Liang Court should never go wrong. Chanced upon a Japanese style noodle soup restaurant, Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen, which translates to Volcano Pork Ramen. Apparently, this was what intrigued me trying it!

Headed for an early dinner, and the usual lively Japanese greetings will really lift your mood up. Remembering entering several Japanese restaurants and having to hear those monotonous greetings? Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen spared your eyes from it, and you can literally feel the happy workers buzzing all around the shop to serve the diners.

November 8 Coffee & Company

I have known and been to this area, Thomson, for years, but not even once I took notice of this building called Thomson V Two. It is kind of like a hidden gem where it houses several cafes in this humble site. Needless to say, with the numerous sprouting along the main road of Upper Thomson Road, Thomson V Two can easily be forgotten.

It took me several turns and getting my navigation on track to locate this building (all blames credited to my GPS)... Was there early, thus took a walk and realized there is nothing except cafes, which took up a majority of the spaces. November 8 is the minority of the cafes opening at 1200 hours, but we decided to stick to our choice whilst walking around the others.

Finally caught some time to travel to Joo Chiat area to try out Sinpopo Brand! Has been in my waiting list for months, and finally I can gladly strike it off with a smile :)

Wood Shed

If you have never been to Rangoon road, it is somewhere off Balestier road. I have been there before with my parents to try the bak kut teh many years back.

Wood Shed Cafe is located at around the secluded corner of Rangoon Road, at least it is to me. If you have heard of the Bak Kut Teh in Rangoon road, Wood Shed Cafe will be easy to locate! Plus with their color-rotan chairs placed outside, they sure know how to provide "eye-candies" for onlookers :)

Thursday, 5 June 2014

Miska Cafe

Took a day off from the hectic work week that was about to start, and landed myself by the "sea", indulging myself in the land of the rich!

Miska Cafe is one of the affordable cafe in Quayside Isle, as what I've briefly researched, besides Kith Cafe. In addition, Miska Cafe is set to be the concept of Mediterranean, offering fresh with quality ingredients.

Backstage Cafe

Cafe set in an industrial area, wasn't what I thought would be sloppy service and food.

Backstage Cafe can be easily seen from along the street due to it's big signage!

The Corner Place Korean BBQ

I have not stepped into Marina Square and its premises for probably months. If you were to compare the before and now of Marina Square, you will be seeing more dining options!

Happened to saw this small place at level 4, Marina Square's food court. The Corner Place Korean BBQ is not really located at the most corner, but I don't really think anyone will care right? As long as food is yummy, I wouldn't mind where it is, even if it is located in the carpark!

Alkaff Mansion

Previously a residence and now a restaurant!

Alkaff Mansion seems to be a great place for dinner, parties, D&D and such at night, though it may portray a slightly different ambiance during the day. I went to Alkaff Mansion for brunch on one fine sunny weekend, and no amount of fan can stop me perspiring!

Sik Bao Sin

Met up with some other food bloggers like Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow, Pinky Piggu, SG Food on Foot, and DanielFoodDiary for dinner during the weekday.

Suggested by Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow, we arranged to dine at Sik Bao Sin, which means "to eat first", translated from Teochew dialect. Being here since beginning of the year, it has certainly won numerous heart of diners. Of course, I'm one of their new-comer :)

ReStore Living

ReStore Living has been in my list of cafe to go for a very long time. Finally, after having my lunch and harboring zero plans for the rest of the day, we decided to head to ReStore Living for killing my sweet-tooth craves!!

Wednesday, 14 May 2014

Went for food tasting at RELFECTIFF, which is the first al fresco gastrobar right in our very own Changi Airport! Although it's supposed to be open platform type of dining, but we were relocated to the lobby lounge of Crowne Plaza due to the rain... Quite a pity, as the outdoor seems so well-decorated. Indoor is not bad too.. At least cooling temperature is guaranteed in our usually hot and humid country :)

Two Chefs Eating Place (Sin Ming outlet)

If you are one of those tze-char (煮炒) likers, and best, staying in the west area, Two Chefs doesn't sound strange to you right?

Yes! Located along Commonwealth Link, I've been there twice with my parents. Twice as well, having difficulty to find a parking lot, and twice again to grab a table! It's really popular, but because of the crowd, it kind of spoilt my mood to take on the "journey to west"...

I accidentally chanced upon the signage "Two Chefs Eating Place" after parking in the HDB carpark, behind Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, popularly known as 光明山, along Sin Ming Avenue. A thought immediately struck my head, "Did Two Chefs have another outlet?". Well, a small research paid off, and here I am, back another day to kill my craving for Two Chefs after like a few years!

My Awesome Cafe

Been seeing instagram of My Awesome Cafe pictures uploaded by foodies alike :) Being tempted to give it a try, weekdays seems like a better choice, especially when it is situated at CBD area! You may be thinking where is the cafe??? Forget about looking for "My Awesome Cafe" signboard.. Instead, the enlarged chinese characters (中华医院) are the ones you should be stretching your neck for :)

FIKA Swedish Cafe & Bistro

It actually took me quite some time to locate a Halal Cafe... When I finally found one, the anxiousness finally took a downturn! Didn't knew Halal Cafe is pretty limited in Singapore.

Located in the area of the popular "Haji Lane", FIKA Swedish Cafe & Bistro is visible along beach road, junction of Arab Street and Beach Road.
