Quan Lai Kway Chap

It has been a long time since I had Kway Chap, where you have several food items (usually pig organs), with a bowl or two of flat and broad rice sheets. This has been one of my childhood breakfast at coffeeshops to end the "marketing" in the morning, but seldom visits as I grew older and get surrounded by tons of cafes serving brunches and other western food.

Their rice sheets are thin and soft, while at the same time, the herbal soup is quite delicious. I can order another bowl of kway chap and slurp the entire bowl clean!

Ordered the Preserved Chinese Mustard thinking I should be getting a few pieces of pork belly which is mixed together. But plate came without any pork belly, which is a disappointment then. Had wanted to order a plate of pork belly then, but ignored the idea as we have ordered enough dishes for the meal.

Tofu Skin is one of my favorite items in Kway Chap. I love the soft tofu skin dripped with the gravy.

One of their hot favorite, but sadly not to my liking, Deep-fried Pig Intestine. Crispy intestines, but I prefer the traditional braised intestines which are soft and full of the stewed taste.

Duck Platter, consists of pineapple slices, braised egg, braised pig intestines, and of course the braised duck meat. Duck meat is a little tough while others are to my liking. I love their braised pig intestines which is super soft. Adding of pineapple slice is unique, but not able to really taste any major difference in the entire dish.

Quan Lai Kway Chap serve a well-rated Kway Chap, but if more effort can be put into preparing their duck meat to be a little more tender, the duck platter would be perfect. With a total spending of around $29, it is steep. Overall food quality may not be able to match the price, so a return visit is less likely to be soon.

Other than Quan Lai Kway Chap, Sin Fong Restaurant also have Teochew Porridge, which I might give it a try soon.
