Cod Fish Specialty House ~ 鳕鱼之家 ~

I visited Cod Fish Specialty House last year, and indeed it's a long backlog. Please note they have moved to a HDB area at Bukit Batok area.

Cod Fish Specialty House along Choa Chu Kang road is not at all eye-catching, further with it being situated on a hill-like structure, making it even less visible.

There are 2 ways to get up to Cod Fish Specialty House, and one of the way is to climb the aging-metal stairway which isn't too hard to get yourself to the top, or walk along the ascending slope on the left and enter through the paid-carpark.

Just the look of it can tell how long it has been here. We were there early slightly before 7pm, and even though the tables were not occupied yet, most of it are already chopped with reservation plates. I am not sure if they sell any other food in the morning, because I am here to try out how true it is, for a shop to be called a Cod Fish Specialty House.

No fanciful menu, but simple enough to whet your appetite.

Had this Passionfruit Drink ($3.00). Couldn't quite finish this drink without the thought of the next drink I should order. In the end, I ended up with some red tea leaves drink ($1.50) which appeared to be on most tables. It's a cup of iced drink which isn't too sweet and I could have ordered 2 cups to be drank by me alone.

Silver Fish Egg 银鱼蛋 ($10.00). More like a scrambled egg dish with addition of silver fish. It was quite an ok dish, which the boss claimed silver fish is not in the everyday menu when we wanted to minced meat egg.

Although not an excellent dish, I would still compliment the chef for not over-cooking the egg, still leaving a little moist in it.

Braised Bean Curd Skin with Gailan 豆皮芥兰 ($8.00). Crunchy gailan with bean curd skin is a rare combination. The only pure vegetable dish, which makes us go stunned like vegetable. Anyway, I will definitely order this again!

Deep Fried Crispy Prawn Fritter 五香虾枣 ($8.00). Normal as it is, in comparison with other tze-char stalls, but I just can't resist not ordering my all time favorite.

Hing Hua Style Mee Sua 兴化面线 ($5.00). One of the must order dish, and I strongly recommend. I like my mee sua to be soggy type, thus whenever my mum tried to cook mee sua, I will tend to let it soak in the soup long enough till it got all absorbed.

Hing Hua Style Mee Sua does not give you the soggy texture, but it has sufficient water absorbed in and is super tasty. Easily be one staple food for each of us in replacement of rice.

Fried Hing Hua Bee Hoon 兴化干炒米粉 ($5.00). Similar dish as Hing Hua Style Mee Sua, but if you realize something, the bee hoon is super thin unlike those economical bee hoon stalls, where the bee hoon is thicker.

This, in comparison with Hing Hua Style Mee Sua, fare slightly lower. If you can't decide between the mee sua or bee hoon, take mee sua and I doubt you will leave with disappointment.

Prawn Paste Chicken 虾酱鸡 ($10.00). Crispy skin and tender meat, with appropriate amount of prawn paste.

We were taken this by surprise when the boss recommended Salted Egg Pork Ribs 咸蛋排骨 ($12.00), when we just wanted the usual Stir Fried Pork Ribs. You can imagine how our eyes lit up when we heard the word "salted egg"!

Creamy salted egg sauce-like clinging on the the pork ribs, making it tasty even so, when the pork ribs are soft to bite in. Strongly recommended to try when visiting Cod Fish Specialty House.

If you are at Cod Fish Specialty House, you shouldn't miss out on their Cod Fish Steamboat 鳕鱼炉 ($25.00). The soup is replenishable, and it is definitely not just adding of water and thus diluting the flavorful soup.

For just a small portion, we were given like 6 pieces of sliced cod fish, which I think is pretty generous of Cod Fish Specialty House. Absolutely another sure-order item!

The food served at Cod Fish Specialty House is pretty awesome, leaving our appetite and stomach satisfied. With its run-down location, I really hope Cod Fish Specialty House can remain standing as long as it can, because just a one-time visit is definitely letting myself down!

However we were quite puzzled with the incentive to receive a squash racket for every order with minimum of $50. It will automatically be given to you when making the payment, and it comes with racket, 2 balls and a CD which will guide you on how to use it. It is called Qianlong Ball, 牵珑球.
