The Assembly Ground

The Assembly Ground, is a cafe located in The Cathay building, beside the The Assembly Store which sells multi-label men's fashion.

Used to be a CD-record shop, The Assembly has taken over, providing both retail and dining to shoppers and cafe-ers alike!

Tables are adequately spaced giving diners a comfort zone is engaging private conversations. Place is not brightly-lited, but the yellowish lighting spots is able to emit a comfortable ambiance instead of feeling uneasy.

The Assembly Ground is more popular for its coffee, but the menu has mains to fulfill the hungry stomachs streaming into the cafe.

Hot Mocha ($6.50). I love caffeine drinks with latte art, even though it will be stirred and emptied after a couple of sips.

Some of the other drinks we had were the Ice Lemon Tea ($5.00) and Iced Honey Camomile ($6.00).

Truffle Fries ($12.00), straight cut fries with parmesan, truffle oil and tartar sauce. This basket of truffle fries could be better, and I won't be here for this again anytime. The outer skin of the fries seems a little on the hard side, making it ain't as crunchy as I have expected from a highly-faved cafe.

Omega 3 Scrambled Eggs ($15.00), consisting of trout roe, smoked salmon, flaxseed oil, arugula, and soy multigrain toast. All seem like a healthy breakfast/brunch to have, but personally I would prefer a more meaty meal.

The Assembly Brunch ($19.50). If you are having brunch, I would usually recommend going for the all-inclusive. Consisting of scrambled eggs, wiener sausage, sauteed mushrooms, potato gratin, roasted cherry tomatoes, toast, and a choice of either smoked salmon or bacon.

Sumptuous meal, but one thing to highlight is my preference for the latter toast, than the soy multigrain toast. I feel that this toast is tastier and easier to chew. Well, of course multigrain toast is a healthier option.

Another eggy brunch, Eggs Benji ($16.00). Consisting of poached eggs, hollandaise, English muffins with baked ham.

Spicy Sausage and Bacon ($18.00). Pasta with spicy chicken sausage, bacon, garlic, white wine, chilli, and basil.

I didn't really thought it will be spicy, but it turned out alright. Not as spicy to the extent you will be gulping buckets of water. Manageable spicyness, but not being a pasta person myself, I find the pasta a little tough, while overall is satisfactory.

My first visit to The Assembly Brunch, and overall is just satisfactory. It wasn't anything fantastic about the food, but crew attitude is friendly and approachable. Pay Before Food concept is being used here, but food comes pretty fast without much of a wait.

While the food does not impress me, I hope the caffeine drinks are.
